Media and Communications Officer
Today, 12 children and young people in the UK hear the shocking news they have cancer. Young Lives vs Cancer is the UK’s leading cancer charity for children and young people, and their families. We help families find the strength to face everything cancer throws at them.
Young Lives vs Cancer is looking for a Media and Communications Officer to be part of Team Young Lives for a fixed term maternity cover.
As Media and Communications Officer, you will take lead responsibility for communicating about a portfolio of key areas of Young Lives vs Cancer's policy work, fundraising activities and services, to a wide range of audiences. This will include developing innovative communications plans, producing and pitching creative content and writing compelling copy for a variety of external and internal channels. You will also take part in press office and social media management.
You’ll be a great storyteller and have a real passion for telling the stories of the children and young people with cancer supported by Young Lives vs Cancer.
You’ll have experience of working in a busy press office and you’ll be able to build great relationships with families as well as journalists, influencers and colleagues across the charity.
You’ll get a real buzz from seeing how you can help change the system and make stuff happen for young cancer patients. You’ll be unflappable, friendly, determined and have loads of creative ideas on how to get our stories heard.
Like all great storytellers you’ll be happy sharing these powerful stories across a range of channels whether it’s crafting something for Twitter, Facebook or Instagram, writing amazing media releases or briefing a colleague before they appear on the sofa at breakfast time.
The role can either be based at our Bristol or Hammersmith Offices, once they reopen or be home-based but you may occasionally be asked to come to our offices or travel for media work. For the right candidate we will consider part-time hours.
